James Scade (Little Channels Golf Centre) produced a brilliant round of golf to master a strong field in the John O’Gaunt Pro-Am.

The Essex ace shot a five-under-par total of 66 to emerge triumphant by a solitary shot from Phil Abbott (Whipsnade Park).

Scade’s victory charge was massively helped by two eagles – one on each nine.

He teed off on the tenth hole and it wasn’t long before the fireworks started.

Birdies at his fourth and sixth had him ticking over nicely before an eagle three at the 479-yard 17th powered him into contention.

There was a little bit of inconsistency around the turn as he traded two dropped shots against a birdie.

But he was flying again with a birdie at his 15th – the sixth – before recording an eagle two at the 331-yard seventh hole.

That took Scade to six-under-par for the tournament, only for him to give one back before signing his card.

Abbott also found an eagle – at the ninth – in a fine round. He needed a birdie up the last to force a tie but had to settle for a par and score of 67.

Morning starter Dan Field (East Herts) turned up the heat early on with a three-under-par effort. But he was eclipsed in the afternoon by Scade’s dashing golf.
