Tom Jessamine, the latest assistant at Exeter Golf and Country Club, is this year’s winner of the Titleist & FootJoy Sprint series for assistants and professionals under 30.

His five-under-par 66 over the yellow and orange courses at Cumberwell Park on a perfect warm, sunny, windless day for scoring was matched by Tom Hanson (Tiverton) and Chris O’Neill (Cardiff).

Jessamine, 25, a plus-three amateur before he turned professional at his first club Woodbury Park, was second at Minehead and 15th at Radyr in the previous rounds. He beat Hanson by just six points to take the £500 bonus with favourite Toby Hunt (St Mellons) third.

Hunt could only manage one-over 72 and a share of 18th at Cumberwell where the leading ten players produced two eagles and 61 birdies.

Adam Curtis (Bude and North Cornwall) was the fourth player to qualify for a goods package from Titleist and Footjoy while Jessamine received an addition prize from golfbreaks.com. Curtis was four under par standing on the 15th tee but three bogeys in the final four holes proved costly.

O’Neill just missed out on the bonus pool, finishing sixth, after his first win. His previous best finish was runner-up in the Sprint series at The Players Club three years ago.
