PHILLIP Kelly, who works in his family's estate agency in Lytham when he's not playing golf, homed in on the PGA in Cheshire and North Wales Open at Northop Country Park thanks to a flawless seven-under-par 65.

The 30-year-old racked up five birdies, four on the outward half, before producing a stroke of genius at the 519-yards 15th where he rolled in an eagle putt from 25 feet.

"I drove my tee shot into the rough some seven or eight yards off the fairway and my ball landed in a bad lie but I hacked at it with a five wood and it landed on the green," he said.

Kelly, runner-up in the previous day's pro-am, finished two shots ahead of North Wales-attached Matthew Tottey.

He admitted he was fortunate to get plenty of time off from the family business, having only returned from playing in two events on the Alps Tour in Italy the night before.

"I'd been away for 10 days and drove straight down to Northop to play in the pro-am and finished a shot behind on winner Phil Archer. I think I'd sharpened up my act a bit!" he added.
