Levermore – by five

Levers 2

Jason Levermore (Little Channels Golf Centre) shot a course record on his way to victory in the Saffron Walden Centenary Pro-Am.

The 2019 East region captain fired a fabulous eight-under-par 64 to win by five strokes from Andy Pestell (Chelmsford) and Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall).

Levermore, who recently turned 40, showed that he is still all class, blasting four straight birdies from the second.

He shrugged back to back bogies with a superb eagle at the ninth, fizzing a 6-iron from 197 yards to 12 feet and holing the putt.

He peeled off four more birdies on the back nine to storm to his fifth regional win of the season.

Ever modest, Levermore offered thanks to his long-time coach Paul Bate (Brett Vale) after the two men spent time ironing out a glitch or two.

Levermore said: “I owe a mention to Paul…I’d been struggling for a couple of weeks, so on Wednesday night we spent a few hours at Brett Vale – until nine o’clock – looking at all aspects of my game.

“At Saffron Walden I three-putted from 12 feet on the sixth and didn’t get up and down on 7 – but apart from that it was some of the best golf I’ve played.”
