Lewis Scott (Paulton’s Golf Centre) overcame stiff opposition from Adam Hickling (Stoneham) to win The PGA in Hampshire’s Match Play Championship at Royal Winchester Golf Club.

The annual tournament has become a feature of the golfing calendar at Royal Winchester and this year’s event was sponsored by The Peter Cooper Motor Group.

The qualifying round was played in the morning of the first day, with the top eight scores going through to the knockout stages. Scott beat Hickling in Tuesday’s final 5 & 3.

Lewis commented: “I think I speak for all my fellow professionals when I say the course was in great condition, provided us with a stern test, and an enjoyable playing experience.

“We are very fortunate to play our events at venues that always bend over backwards to provide us with everything that we need and Royal Winchester was no exception, the hospitality we all received was faultless, to which we are all very grateful.

“As for the golf, I had three very enjoyable matches so a thank you to Gary Stubbington, Hockley, Finbar Kane, Barton-on-Sea and Adam. I was just grateful that I came out on top and managed to defend my title from the previous year.”

Paul Crowe, General Manager at Royal Winchester, added: “It was a privilege to have PGA in Hampshire Matchplay at Royal Winchester. We witnessed some superb golf from a talented group of golf professionals. We are looking forward to hosting the event again next year.”
