A sparkling back nine of four-under par 32 helped Giuseppe Licata win the Marstons Order of Merit Finale Pro-Am at the Point at Polzeath on the eve of the decisive final Order of Merit tournament.

The Chipping Sodbury teaching pro birdied four of the next five holes from the 13th in his 69 to leave Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) and Jon Bevan (Sherborne) one shot behind.

Welsh Professional Champion Sion Bebb (Morlais Castle) suffered a two stroke penalty for missing his tee-time after being caught up in major traffic smash on the M5 near Bristol. Yet he finished fourth on 71 and brought home the second-placed team.

It included a West sponsor Nigel Newport-Black from Cotswold Hills, Andrew Williamson and Mike Wigley. They carded 85, three behind the team led by Barry Austin (Downes Crediton)  playing with Stuart Coleman Phil Coleman and Matthew Durbin.

Richard O’Hanlon (St Kew), who finished tied fifth on 72 with Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) and Chris Gill (Newquay), came third with Scott Chandler, Pete Chinnery and Bill Thompson.

Order of Merit leader Ash Mansell (Clevedon) finished well down the field. He battled on despite illness to learn as much about the course in preparation for the big day.
