McDermott stars at Portmarnock Links Pro-Am

Michael McDermott came up trumps at the Mac Group PGA Pro-Am at Portmarnock Links.

In ideal scoring conditions the Grange GC professional held off David Higgins (Waterville Golf Links) and Joe Dillon (Headfort GC) to win on the fast running Dublin links.

With a shot-gun start in operation, the 38-year-old started his round at the seventh and picked up three shots in his opening 12 holes at the eighth, 10th where he drained a 25-foot putt after finding the green with a sand wedge and the 13th.

He added further birdies at the first and the par five fourth but dropped shots at the second and fourth to finish with a 68 (-3).

McDermott also guided his amateur partners to success in the team event with 90 pts.
