Mistake-free Ruth stars at Yelverton

James Ruth took a break from the Europro Tour to collect the top cheque in the Devon PGA Pro-Am which attracted 31 teams to Yelverton.
The China Fleet assistant shot a flawless four-under-par 67 with halves of 33 and 34 containing four birdies at the fifth, seventh, eighth and 15th.
Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) crossed the border from Dorset to fill the runners-up spot one shot behind helped by an eagle at the fifth and three birdies.
Ashley Moon (Okehampton), who only plays in county events, also eagled the fifth to share third on 69. He was joined by Paul Turpin (Carlyon Bay) who landed two eagles at two par fours, the fourth and ninth, Matt Dearden (Vale Resort), who also eagled the fifth, and Chris Gill whose mixed bag of a round contained six birdies.
Dan Wood (Ivy Leaf) beat Turpin’s team on countback after both returned 16-under-par 88 with the trio led by Richard Sadler (Hayle Golf Range) two shots back in third.
