Colm Moriarty

Colm Moriarty fired a composed five-under par 66 to win the Roganstown Golf Hotel Pro Am sponsored by Brightwater supporting the Crumlin Children's Hospital.

The Glasson Hotel and Golf Club Head Pro has started the season in positive fashion. He lost out to Damian Mooney in a play-off at the BMW Eastern Open but made no mistake at Roganstown, finishing one shot ahead of Michael McGeady on Monday.

"The winter was quiet but at least I had some time to work on my own game," revealed Moriarty. "The PGA training is no picnic but now I have the qualification under my belt it's been nice to spend a bit more time on my own golf.

"It's great to be back out competing. I have been playing really solidly, the game is in good shape and I'm looking forward to the rest of the summer."

With a shot-gun start in operation, Moriarty began his round at the third and quickly got under par with back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth. He dropped his only shot of the day at the par three sixth but got that one back with a birdie at the eight.

Two under par as he started the back nine, Colm collected two more birdies at the 11th and 14th and closed out his round with a birdie two at the par three second.

He added: “It's amazing, when you have a bit more headspace, it can make all the difference. I have been doing a good bit of work on my putting."

The team event was won by professional Ciaran Molloy (Ardee) and amateur partners Karl Doyle, Madeem Akhtar and Lasir Shakut who fired a combined 86pts.
