Nessling wins PGA Southern Pros by three

06/09/2019

Paul NesslingPaul Nessling (Cooden Beach) is the new CK Group PGA Southern Professional champion, after a dazzling 13-under-par performance around the ever-impressive Kings Hill

Getting his hands on his first Order of Merit title of 2019, Nessling not only took home the £3,000 top prize courtesy of the CK Group, but also jumped into the lead for the Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit race as well, with just two majors left.

The new champion commented: “My first day 70 was a good start. On day two things changed and better scoring was much more do-able. I hit lots of shots close and holed a fair few putts. In the final round, I stayed patient and played well, holing a few less putts but aiming for two-under on each nine to be enough – and I’m delighted to say that it was!”

Four behind the first round leader, Louis Savill (Tandridge), Nessling’s terrific second round seven-under-par 65 put him firmly in front of the field. A third and final round of 68 sealed a superb three shot victory over his nearest rival, Christopher Croucher (Cottesmore).

Croucher picked up the second place prize of £1,500, thanks largely to his stunning eight-under-par 64 final round, leaving Alexander MacGregor (Addington Court) collecting £1,200 in third.

With seven wins under his belt in the 2019 schedule, Nessling is well placed in the next Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit event, the Keith MacDonald Match Play*** where he faces Jordan Godwin (Barnehurst) in the semi final. The other semi final sees James Ford (Robert Rock Academy) face Craig Sutherland (Poult Wood).

The winner of the Virgin Atlantic PGA South 2019 Order of Merit will be crowned at the Virgin Atlantic PGA Farnham Finale at the start of October.
