Patience Pays Off As Ellie Seals First One Day Victory

Norwich assistant Ellie Brown finished joint top of the leaderboard to record her first WPGA One Day Series victory of the year.

Brown, of Burnham Broom Golf Club, tied with Ormskirk Golf Club’s Ali Gray in the seventh and final round held at Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club.

They both carded one under par rounds of 72 to finish three shots ahead of a five way tie.

Jessica Bradley (Tiverton Golf Club); Kelly Bridges (Broadstone Golf Club); Catherine Panton-Lewis (The Berkshire Club), Katie Rule (Hadley Wood Golf Club) and amateur Louise Burke all finished on two over par.

Brown who has competed in every round of the competition during her first year in the professional ranks.

“It was a good result but also nice to get a win in the final event after playing in all of them this year, it was an achievement on its own,” she said.

:I did do one of the PGA events last year which gave me an insight into it all, I liked the set up of it all.

“I thought that going down the PGA route would be good and this is my first year of training.”

Brown’s best result before this was to tie for sixth place in two events.

But the Salisbury result represented huge progress.

“It was a big improvement but I actually haven’t had the chance to play too much with the course work I’m doing,” she added.
“That’s the hardest thing but just getting the chance to play in all of these events is a break for me, it’s what I’m used to.

“As it was the last round, I think I relaxed a bit more, I had a different mindset as well, I went out to enjoy it which was nice.”

Brown has plans to coach more once her PGA training is over.

“I want to look into that and I want to play more, but it’s having the time. Coaching is definitely an aim but after playing as an amateur I still want to do my competitions as well.”
