Ramsey Is Louis The 14 As He Focuses On Portgual Final

Piltdown Golf Club amateur Louis Ramsey admits his preparations for the Lombard Trophy in Portugal have been going too well.

Ramsey qualified for the prestige National Pro-Am Championship final in June when he and PGA Professional Jason Partridge won the regional event at Camberley Heath Golf Club in Surrey.

The pair carded an 11 under par round of 60 and now head for the £41,450, Coca-Cola and Pestana Resorts supported, grand final which will be played at the Vila Sol resort in the Algarve between September 20-21.

Ramsey, an events organiser, decided to take a short break from golf after he changed jobs.

But when he returned, he impressed in a two day competition and managed to reduce his handicap by one to 14.

“I don’t think Jason was very happy with me when I walked back in to the club and told him, he probably wishes I’d taken a longer break,” said the Newick-based 24-year-old.

“I played in a two round competition and it was good practice playing two games in a row, I haven’t really done that.

“But I played well on the second day after a shaky star - and I got my handicap cut which wasn’t ideal.

“Maybe I should’ve waited until we were actually in Portugal before playing in a competition. I suppose I’ve recharged the batteries though.”

The pair have only teamed up once and that was at Camberley Heath.

“It was quite a good start for us really, this is a big competition and it’s getting a lot of mentions at the club,” he said.

“I got a few emails to congratulate me, it’s big thing for us and it’s Jason’s first Lombard final.

“But I played cricket during my time off and I got a new job, so I was busy and didn’t play much golf.

“I’ve got a few games lined up as we get closer to the final though.”
