There was a four-way tie for first place on one-under-par in the fourth PGA Cheshire & North Wales Members’ Tour fixture at Vale Royal Abbey.

And it could well have been a case of “no contest” if Rhodri Fieldhouse had built on his blistering start with a quartet of birdies from the opening hole. But the player, who represents American Golf, then gave them all back and failed to register another birdie until the final green which, thankfully, helped him to share the spoils.

The ever-consistent Lee Rooke claimed second spot on his own as Eaton’s Graham Roberts and Hazel Grove’s Benjamin Thompson shared third on 73.

Meanwhile, this was the second time in three outings that the leaders were involved in a four-way tie.

The fifth event in the series of six is at Bramall Park on November 13.
