Market Harborough teacher Trish Formoy will play in the WPGA Lombard Trophy qualifying round with the woman who used to be her pupil.

Formoy is teaming up with professional partner Kym Larratt for the event which will be held at Dunham Forest Golf Club in Cheshire on June 2.

Formoy will be looking to learn from Larratt after qualifying to play alongside the European Ladies Tour player.

But 13 years ago, the roles were reversed when Larratt was a schoolgirl in Formoy’s class Robert Smyth School.

“We thought it was quite fun that I used to be her teacher, she was in my GCSE class,” she said.

“She did her very best then, just as I so my very best as a player now which is what you’d expect.

“Even back then, I was playing at Kibworth and Kym was there so I knew here from there as well.

“It’s always been a successful and productive relationship and I hope that it will be at Dunham Forest too.”

The Leicestershire duo will aim to make it to the £7,800 Algarve grand final taking place at the Vila Sol resort between September 21-22.

“I’ve got my handicap down from 16 to 15, so I’m hoping this will be a good season,” said Formoy.

“Kym’s always stayed grounded despite her successful golf career.

“And she’s very much a part of what we do locally.

“She has maturity way ahead of her time and we can have a laugh as well.”

Formoy also has a big day planned on June 30.

“I’m doing a charity golf marathon at Kibworth to raise money for Women’s Aid to do with another ex-pupil of mine and a case of domestic abuse,” she explained.

“I’m going to keep going, I plan at least four rounds which should be at least 20 miles, then we’ll see what more I can be encouraged to do.”
