European Seniors Tour winner George Ryall became the Gloucester and Somerset PGA’s inaugural Total Triumph Summer Series champion by sharing top spot in the final event of the four-round series at Mendip Spring.

His one-under-par 70 on a blustery day was matched by the home club’s assistant Will Hobbs. They were the only players to break par.

The win was also enough for Ryall to climb above the absent Giuseppe Licata in the final Order of Merit points table.

Ryall made the last of his six birdies at the closing two holes. Hobbs made birdies at the second, third and eighth following a double bogey at the seventh. He parred the final nine holes.

Louis Boston, the 29-year-old Stockwood Vale teaching professional, formerly at Windmill Golf Academy in Bristol, would have shared top spot but for a double bogey at the 17th so he settled for third.

Former Mendip Spring members Dan Toogood (Weston-super-Mare) and Paul Gravell (Players Club), the first ever club champion in his amateur days, tied fourth on 73.

Licata was second in the OoM and Ed Goodwin (Cirencester) third. They missed the final event as they were paired together in the Golfbreaks PGA Fourball final. They were followed by Mark Pitcher (Stinchcombe) and Robin Goodey (Chipping Sodbury). Wells assistant Tom Maggs was the leading trainee.
