Andy Shakespear

Andy Shakespear won the annual Christmas Pro-Am at Thorndon Park after sneaking in late with a round of 67 to finish one shot ahead of Brett Taylor.

Once again the popular event attracted a large field with 29 PGA Professionals bringing their amateur team along to enjoy the relatively benign weather conditions.

PGA Cup winner Robert Coles (Maylands) recovered from an ugly eight at the par five 11 to hold four birdies in five holes and finish on one-under par 70.

That score kept him top of the leadboard for most of the day until Taylor (Rivenhall Oaks Golf Centre) returned an impressive three-under par 68.

It looked as though that would be the winning score, however Shakespear (Warren Golf and Country Club) recorded six birdie to finish on four-under par 67.

The Pro-Am was won by Brett Taylor with amateurs Ron Sullivan, Patrick Bowler and Paul Wilkinson who finished on a stableford score of 93 points.
