Shaw’s reaching out for High Elms

14/07/2018

SOUTH Richard ShawRichard Shaw is the new Centre Manager at Mytime Active’s High Elms Golf Course, and as one of the region’s outreach experts, he’s excited about helping the golf centre reach out to new audiences in the Bromley area.

Previously a director of Community Golf and still involved with the PGAs of Europe’s Golf Development Team, Shaw is right at the sharp end when it comes to getting more people into golf.

As he comments: "High Elms is exactly the right opportunity to put all the things I’ve learned into action with a business whose success will depend on more youngsters and parents discovering golf.

"The potential’s huge and the role’s a bit different to the usual range of careers for PGA Professionals. Increasing participation is central, so I’ll be focusing on golf for families, women and juniors, aiming to make golf much more approachable to these groups living in the Bromley area."

Jonathan Wright, the newly appointed Golf Development Executive for The PGA, said: "Golf’s not on everyone’s radar and it’s not really sold as a family activity, so Richard’s got a lot of work to do.

"I know it’ll be a hugely enjoyable challenge for him to build up the High Elms’ offer and to get these audiences into golf. The PGA has just launched the WeLoveGolf campaign which aims to increase the number of women and girls playing the game. I’m sure Richard's work will greatly contribute to this and I wish him every success."
