Sherborne Success At Celtic Manor

Sherborne Golf Club enjoyed double success in the final West PGA pro-am of the season at Celtic Manor

PGA Cup-winning captain Jon Bevan won for the fourth time this season – sharing top spot with Richard Bentham (Hensol Golf Academy) – while first-year trainee Adam Harris won his first cheque as a professional by sharing third with prolific winner Richard O’Hanlon (St Kew). They each pocketed £375.

Teaching professional Bevan made three birdies and dropped two shots on a gruelling day on the Roman Road course.

Bentham, whose only previous win was in a South Wales PGA medal, mixed good with bad as he landed six birdies and made five bogeys in another battling round. The winners collected £637.

Teenager Harris, the former club junior captain during his Dorset count y amateur days, carded five birdies, including two on the final two holes, after dropping two shots on the outward trip. O’Hanlon was three-under on the 15th tee but a triple bogey sunk his victory bid.

One-time west kingpin Russell Berry (Broadway) shot 74 in a rare appearance to share fifth with Kevin Harper (East Devon) and Will Farley (Bovey Castle).

Huw Williams (Pyle and Kenfig) was the leading Welshman on 75.

Chris Murphy (Raglan Parc), playing with Richard Hill, Andrew Hill and Nathan Burrows, won the team prize on 81.

Williams, Jamie Jones, Tony Jones and Chris Morgan lost on countback. Farley led Steve Laister, Trevor Whiteway and Mark Mytton into third place one shot behind.
