Hereford DJ Shaun Silcox hopes to have his rivals in a spin at the Lombard Trophy after taking tips from a European Tour professional.

Burghill Valley Golf Club amateur Silcox will team up with PGA professional Andy Cameron for the Midlands qualifying event which is being held at Little Aston Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield on June 5.

But Silcox, who plays off a handicap of 18, is also good friends with Ollie Farr who competed in the recent BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

And the 32-year-old has played a few round with Farr - whose father Graham is also playing at Little Aston where the Worcester Golf & Country Club player will partner Jason Hancocks.

Now Silcox and Cameron will be hoping to head to Portugal for the £41,450, Coca-Cola and Pestana Resorts supported, National Pro-Am grand final which will be played at the Vila Sol resort in the Algarve between September 20-21.

Silcox has worked as a club DJ for 13 years and used to be based in Marbella but has returned to settle in Hereford.

But he admits that if he could not have been playing tunes then he would have loved to have been a golf Pro.

“Playing golf for a living would’ve been my ideal job,” he admitted.

“Which is why it’s good to have someone in there like Ollie as a friend. I went to see him play in the BMW event and I’ve had the chance to have a few rounds with him which has been great.”

Silcox says he only returned to the game in 2016 after a 12 year break.

“I took a long time away from golf after starting when I was 12, but decided to try and pick it up again at Burghill a couple of years ago and I’m pleased to say that I hadn’t forgotten the basics.

“I can’t play as much as I’d like, especially with a girlfriend and a baby. I still DJ in Hereford and it’s been a good career path for me. But it’s one of those jobs you can’t so forever.

“I’m looking forward to playing alongside Andy at Little Aston which I hear is a tough course - someone told me there are enough bunkers for every day of the year. Andy’s a good player who’s been around a long time.

“But it is a co-incidence that I’m playing against Ollie’s dad Graham.”

Other teams from the Midlands lining up at Little Aston include host pairing Brian Rimmer and James Cadman; Stephen Russell and Eddie Lawrence (Bridgnorth Golf Club); Martin Sutliff and Stuart Day (Coventry Golf Club); Daniel Greenwood and Paul Blackham (Forest Pines Golf Club); Michael Bent and Jamie Marchant (Kibworth Golf Club); Tim Coxon and Andy Keeling (Mickleover Golf Club); Michael Bradley and Tom Hallam (Notts Golf Club) and Ian Proverbs and Paul Thurston (Walsall Golf Club).
