There was a host of players queuing up to win the Leighton Buzzard Pro-Am but in the end no less than six players finished in a tie at two-under-par.

Chase Davis (Marriott Sprowston Manor Hall), James Webber (Three Rivers Golf and Country Club), Danny Poulter (Heacham Manor Hotel), Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range), Steve Cipa (South Essex Golf Centre) and James Taverner (Hendon) all fired rounds of 69.

In truth, several of the co-victors will have felt this was one that slipped away. Cipa was four-under on the final tee but made a double bogey six. He’d previously eagled the 12th and birdied the 15th to put himself in a strong position.

Stokes will also have felt a tinge or two of frustration. He played a magnificent front nine to reach five-under but dropped three strokes – including one at the last – on the way home.

Poulter was four-under with three to play but made bogey at both 16 and 17. Webber gave a shot back at the 18th to end up at two-under.

Somewhat ironically, the only man to birdie the final hole – a 332-yard par-4 – was Jason Levermore (Little Channels Golf Centre) who finished a stroke behind the top six.

The winning team on a 19-under-par tally of 123 was led by Gary Munro (Bedford and County).
