Talbott’s big finish

Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall) birdied his final three holes to edge the Harsbourne Golf & Country Club Pro-Am by a shot.

It looked set to be a relatively quiet day for the Essex pro who’d carded one birdie and two bogies through 15 holes, having teed off at 14 under a shotgun start.

But a gain at the par-4 11th hole lit the touch paper for a stirring finish as he followed up with another birdie three at the next.

Talbott’s closing hole was the par-5 13th – which ranked the second hardest on the day.   

But he maintained his forward move right to the end, signing off with a third straight birdie.

Talbott beat James Ruebotham (Welwyn Garden City) by a shot for his second regional success of the season after triumphing at Girton in early July.
