Third successive win for Melding

Craig Melding

Craig Melding continued his domination of South Wales PGA winter medals by completing a hat-trick of wins on a windy and wet day at Swansea Bay.

His five-under par 67 followed success at Bryn Meadows and Creigiau and extended his lead over Paul Mayo in the order of merit.

Former European Tour player Mayo was the first winner of the season at Maesteg in October after beating Toby Hunt and Robert Jackson.

Melding, who also enjoyed a successful season in West Region events, made three of his six birdies in succession from the tenth and only dropped one shot.

Rhys Pugh finished two shots behind to achieve another second place after an eagle at the 12th and five birdies. But he dropped four shots, including one at the last.

Ryan Haskell completed the only other sub-par round making 70 to claim third place. He also eagled the 12th but his bogey on the final hole cost him share of second.

Steve Williams (Glynhir) and amateur David Evans won the better-ball  for the second time this season with a return of seven-under-par 65.  Melding and Steve Watkins were a shot further back.
