One-under-par rounds of 70 from Jordan Godwin (Barnehurst), Craig Sutherland (Poult Wood Golf Centre) and David Copsey (DCGS Poult Wood) meant each took home cheques for £658 in the Royal Blackheath Pro-Am.

The victorious trio also laid down a marker for this week’s Titleist & FootJoy PGA Professional Championship PQ as their scores were new course records over the recently revamped layout.

Sutherland was leading on two-under until a bogey at his last hole put him back into a tie. An up and down opening nine by Copsey left him on level par, but he birdied the 10th and cruised home with a run of pars to claim his share of the win.

However, it was Godwin who provided the drama. One-under with three holes to play, a double bogey six threatened to take him out of contention altogether, but Godwin repaired the damage with two impressive birdies to put him back in pole position.

The experienced duo of Andrew Butterfield (Knole Park) and Matt Rice (Purley Downs) were next best, two strokes behind.

Copsey’s performance also inspired his group to victory in the team event, winning with 15-under-par after a countback from Lea Cooper’s team from Tilgate Forest, adding a handy bonus to Copsey’s winnings for the day.
