Two pairs tied at the top

Coles Sand

Two of the East’s finest are locked at the top after the first day of the Searles PGA Spring Classic.

Rob Coles (Maylands Golf and Country Club)) and Chase Davis (Marriott Sprowston Manor), along with their respective amateur partners, both stacked up 42 points under the greensomes Stableford format at King’s Kynn.

Coles is playing in the Spring Classic for the first time and, along with his partner Grant Beglan, took a shine to the event.

Their six-under par score matched that of Chase and Garry Davis who finished half an hour earlier. The four men will be the last quartet out on at Hunstanton on day two, teeing off at midday under better-ball Stableford rules.

In hot pursuit will be Mark Spooner (Glen Lodge) and amateur Steve Mitchell. They finished the opening day with 41 points, as did Adam Trett (Suffolk Golf and Country Club) and partner David Jackson.

In total there are 56 pairs in competition in the East region’s traditional North Norfolk curtain-raiser.
