Neath assistant Craig Melding continued his total domination of South Wales PGA events by claiming his fourth win of the season with a round  of three-under-par 69 at Newport.

On a drizzly day he was the only player not to drop a shot and his flawless round contained three birdies at the second, 12th and 218th holes. He extended his lead in the Order of Merit.

Joshua Mayo was the birdie star on a course he knows so well. The Parc Golf Club and Asbri Golf player made seven birdies, but one double bogey at the tenth and three more dropped shots left him one behind Melding on 70.

Alex Price (Glamorganshire) carded five birdies but three bogeys on the front nine cost him a higher placing as he joined Mayo as runner-up. Toby Hunt (St Mellons) shot 72 including a double bogey and an eagle.

Bryn Meadows players Rhys Pugh and Greg Baker won the betterball on 64. Creigiau’s Richard Brookman and Mike Harmer were one shot behind while Melding and Steve Watkins took third place with 67 on countback.
