Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines’ day to remember

It’s not often that you can claim that ‘it’s not about the winning, it’s all about the taking part’, but that’s exactly what defines the Virgin Atlantic & Delta Airlines Golf & Spa Day: some golf mixed up with a few other even more relaxing pursuits. And why not?

Through Virgin Atlantic’s association with The PGA, through their support of the Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit, The PGA helped put together a fantastic day for all Virgin Atlantic’s and Delta Air Lines’ guests.

The unusual but welcome mix was courtesy of a great venue: Foxhills Club and Resort, home of this year’s PGA Cup Matches in September. With PGA Professionals on hand guiding the golfing guests around the course, the Foxhills’ team made all the ‘leisure’ guests very welcome, and the net result was that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially if they didn’t happen to be there for the golf!

As Virgin Atlantic’s own PR put it: “If you’re a golfer, you can enjoy 18 holes on the picturesque fairways. And if golf isn’t your thing, we’ll invite you to enjoy other activities!”

So with that in mind, Matthew Mealey, ably assisted by amateurs Cook, Lee and McLaren, went out and won the golf with a classy 82 points, edging out the 80 points amassed by Alasdair Hay’s (Farnham) trio.

Having got the golf out of the way, the afternoon’s major activities offered a tempting choice between a 45 minutes Pilates class or an hour’s tennis coaching, followed by some golf coaching from Foxhills’ PGA Professionals.

And if none of that held enough appeal or if it looked a bit too sporty, then spa treatments could be booked on arrival for the unique Foxhills therapeutic massage, which included the Elemis booster facial, revitalising eye treatment, and the unmissable hot stone back massage - all of which made the golf look a bit too much like hard work!

With typical golf days taking place week in and week out up and down the length of the UK, it’s not difficult to imagine that in true Virgin Atlantic style, this distinctive take on a golf day was genuinely and thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part, players and partners, golfers and non-golfers, and that they’ll be back again next year.
