Who Els

The only player to break par around the daunting two round challenge provided by Lingfield Park Hotel & Country Club, Nico Els (Professional Golf Tuition Breaks) shot a one-under-par 144 total to win The PGA in Surrey Championship.

Els did just enough right at the end of his second round, producing two birdies at the 17th and 18th to claim the trophy and the £600 winner’s cheque.

Hard on his heels were the duo of Clifford Gough from Reigate Heath and Louis Savill from Tandridge. Gough had opened with a one-under-par 71 to claim the lowest first round, and Louis Savill from Tandridge was on level par.

Gough dropped three shots in his next 12 holes, recovered with two birdies at the 14th and 16th, but stumbled with a bogey on the 17th for a closing 74. Savill was three-over-par by the 11th, but birdies on the last two holes got him into a share of second spot with Gough and cheques for £450 each.

Captain of The PGA in Surrey, Gough, said it for everyone when he tweeted: “Big thanks to #Lingfield Park for hosting the Surrey PGA Pros today. The greens were excellent and the course is as hard as I remember!”
