Win No 2 For Bevan At Polzeath

Jon Bevan recorded his second win of the season at The Point at Polzeath, the venue for next week’s Marston’s Order of Merit showdown.

The Sherborne teaching professional’s faultless display produced three birdies on each nine of 33 and he seldom looked like dropping a shot.

His inch-accurate iron play was reminiscent of the form he showed in sharing the West Region Seniors’ title with George Ryall (Worlebury) at The Players Club last month.

In-form Kevin Harper (East Devon), who posted five-under-par 67 three hours earlier, was relegated to second, despite matching Bevan’s six birdies. His downfall was a bogey at the par five 15th.

Ross Whitelock (St Mellion) carded seven birdies including three in succession to finish, but three dropped shots were costly. He claimed third one further shot behind.

Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) made five birdies but a double bogey on the second set him back. He shared fourth on 69 with William Nolan Farley (Bovey Castle) and Matt Turner (Oake Manor) who also made a bogey at the third following an eagle two.

Chris Gill (Newquay) won the team prize on 87 with Bert Harper, Ray Pipe and Dave Savage. They beat Turner’s trio of Owen Irish, Jamie Short and Connor Clifford on countback.

Watson was third with Jack Dormond, Steve Churchill and John Alton. They shot 86 to beat teams led by Adam Curtis (Bude) and James Urquhart (Torquay).
