ProAgenda.com’s ever popular Guy Woodman shot one of his hottest rounds this year to win the Westcoast Pro-Am and the £5,555 top prize.

Woodman's seven-under par round of 65 saw him take home not only his biggest cheque of 2017, but also the biggest winner’s cheque in one day professional golf in the UK.

The early clubhouse leaders at Bearwood Lakes on five-under-par 67 were the Kent duo of Langley Park’s Paul Sherman and Prince’s Charlie Wilson.

Nudged into second spot by Woodman as the last man out on the golf course, both of them still took home the consolation of £1,750 each.

Supporting Westcoast’s sponsorship were Tag Heuer, along with Titleist and FootJoy, and the field for this much anticipated event attracted 53 PGA Professionals, and a total of 212 players on the day.

Reflecting on his fourth win of 2017, proud new dad Woodman readily acknowledged that everything else went his way.

"Bearwood Lakes is always so well presented, and while they were firm and fast in spite of overnight deluge, my putter seemed to love the greens," said Woodman, who not unused to low scoring.

"I shot a six-under 64 to win at Knole Park in early June and I made seven birdies in the JDRF at Stoke Park, but today’s round went one better.

"It’s great fun playing some of your best golf around a demanding course, but it’s particularly satisfying when you crown good shots by holing some good putts as well.”

Such is the impact of the prize fund, that winning here has propelled Woodman up several places to the top of the PGA South Money List, and he’s now ahead of last week’s PGA Southern Open Championship winner, Canterbury’s Richard Wallis.

Last off in the afternoon off the 10th, Woodman started quietly but birdied the 13th, with two more coming on the 16th and 17th. But on his back nine, things really fell into place with two more on the trot at the second and third and then another at the fifth. Now in the lead, pars followed until the ninth where a terrific tee shot left him a makeable putt, which he duly holed for a fabulous round of 65.

As outstanding as his card was, Woodman wasn’t anywhere near the winning score for the team event, won by Thorpe Hall’s Mark Hall who took his three amateurs to victory with 93 points.

Director of Golf Jon Dry commented: "The Westcoast Pro-Am at Bearwood Lakes is one of our flagship events, besides being one of the biggest Pro-Ams on the PGA South’s schedule.

"Thanks to the input of The PGA in England (South), it’s a unique opportunity to showcase the club and our Top 100 course to over 200 golfers, and spread the word about our unrivalled service and experience.”

“The strength of the professional field was as usual highly impressive with all the top regional players competing, but Woody’s round really was something else.”
