Woodsome Hall Has Eyre Of Progress Says Joh

Woodsome Hall professional John Eyre says the Huddersfield club is improving every year as they prepare to stage the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship North qualifier once more.

Eyre is teaming up with club colleague Adam Durie for the event which is being held on July 20.

And it is another seal of approval for Woodsome Hall which is now a regular venue for the competition which attracts pairings from all over the north of England.

This year, they will be bidding for a place in the £33,250 BMW-supported showpiece event which will be played at Belton Woods Golf Club in Lincolnshire on August 29-31.

Eyre says the host club have never stood still while he has been the head professional there.

“I think we’ve held this event for probably eight years in a row now,” he said.

“It speaks volumes for the quality of the venue and we’re very happy to host the PGA, it increases the profile of the club which is what we’re trying to do here.

“This is my 11th year here as a pro, and I’ve seen the facilities here grow 100 per cent during that time.

“Our head greenkeeper Chris Dyson took over four or five years ago as course manager and is a scratch golfer in his own right - and he’s made a difference.

“People are pushing for the same thing, we’re not sitting back and each year we want to keep making it better.”

Playing partner Durie is a retail manager at Woodsome Hall and the pair will be hoping to impress on the course.

“Adam’s been qualified for about five years now and was the Assistant professional here,” added Eyre.

“I’m in a good place here at the moment, I’ve got a good team around me.

“Myself and Adam have got through the qualifier a few times so we’ll be hoping to do it again.

“I’ve got to the final, certainly once with Adam and probably three other times. It’s a good event and I hope the good weather continues for it!”

Other teams from the North taking part at Woodsome Hall include:   Danny Wilkes (Garforth Golf Club)/Paul O’Donnell (Cookridge Hall);   Aran Wainwright/Gareth Murray (Mid Yorkshire);  Nicholas Taylor (Gainsborough Golf Club)/Stuart Brewer (Holme Hall); Tony Stephens/Jamie Goodhall (Davenport Golf Club); Craig Smith/Matt Naylor (Close House Golf Club) and James Murray.
