Stokes starts new adventure

23 Feb 18

The professionals’ shop at Bishop’s Stortford can now boast two past captains of the PGA in England (East) thanks to Mark Stokes joining Simon Sheppard’s team.

Stokes is a much respected PGA Member in the East and was captain of the region in 2016. Sheppard succeeded him in the role last season.

Stokes has started his new job at the age of 56 after a stint of around 15 years at Rayleigh Driving Range.

He explained that his overarching task is “to enhance the members’ experience at Bishop’s Stortford".

This will see him helping lead coach Graham Stone and shop manager David Rickwood with their responsibilities.

Stokes will also represent the club in the East region where he has been an active player for many seasons.

His experience is sure to be an asset to Sheppard’s five-strong team which also includes PGA Assistant Helena Holland.

Stokes said: “This is a new adventure. I was ready for something different.

“Simon and I have known each other a long time. An opportunity came up and he asked if I fancied it. We had a chat about and that was it. It was all done very quickly.

“Bishop’s Stortford is a premier golf course and the location is fantastic.”
