PGA pros competing in this year’s KCC Midland Open at Birstall would be justified in raising a glass to Kath Cottingham a long time supporter of the event.
The Mark Group, the company founded in 1974 by Kath and her late husband, John, sponsored the Midland Open for several years before it was sold in 2015. In addition, the Mark Group staged an annual pro-am at the club which is located on the cusp of Leicester.
Subsequently, Kath (pictured above with 2016 KCC Midland Open winner Matt Cort) has continued to support the tournament, not least this year when its two sponsors are connected to her.
Her son Lee’s company, max energy, is one, as it was last year, while the new sponsor on the block,Unique Window Systems, has become involved thanks to her.
“Kath Cottingham asked me if I’d like to support the event,” explained Sunil Patel, who owns the Leicester-based company with his brother Atul and is a member at Birstall.
“We’re both keen golfers and I’m a former captain of the club. My brother is also a member and we both get a lot of enjoyment from the game and our association with the club. So we’re happy to give something back.”
