Sam Dodds bounced back from missing the cut at the PGA EuroPro Tour Q School to win the PGA Midlands Q School #1 at Whittington Heath.
Dodds (right), who is attached to Coventry Golf Club, took a liking to the two par fives on the Staffordshire course.
Having birdied the first, he followed up with another at the ninth to post a two-under-par 34 for the outward half.
A birdie at the par four tenth was immediately cancelled out at the 11th but par golf coupled with his closest challengers faltering on the back nine ensured he claimed the £250 winner’s cheque.
While Dodds completed the remaining eight holes in regulation for a two-under-par return of 70, Jeremy Robinson, who finished two shots behind and level with Thomas Gould (Robert Rock Academy), was left to reflect on what might have been. As was Luke Aston.
Robinson, who represents BlackStar Sports, birdied the par-four 14th to go two-under but successive bogeys at 16 and 17 ruined his hopes of victory.
Meanwhile Aston (Beau Desert) reached the turn on two-under but three bogeys on the back nine proved costly.
As a result, he ended up tied fourth with Daniel Lowe (Sandwell Park), William Davies (Ramsdale Park) and PGA Assistants’ Championship winner, Drayton Park’s Matthew Fieldsend.
