Leicestershire pair, PGA Professional Michael Reed and his amateur partner Daniel Bacon, are the early leaders of this winter’s Brabazon Series after winning the first event at The Belfry.
All six events of the series will be contested at the four time Ryder Cup venue and Reed, who represents Glen Gorse Golf Club, and Bacon, a member at Birstall Golf Club, posted a nine-under-par betterball score for 45 Stableford points.
That ensured the duo finished two points clear of St Kew Highway PGA Professional Richard O’Hanlon and his partner, Luke Turbutt, a pro at Kings Norton Golf Club.
Benito Schiavi and Levi Desmond, pros representing American Golf and Belton Park Golf Club respectively, were a point further back in third place.
The win earned Reed £375 and he and his partner picked up 270 points to establish a 30 point advantage at the head of the Order of Merit.
The winners of the series will receive a night’s accommodation at The Belfry on a bed and breakfast basis and complimentary fourball on the Brabazon.
The series is open to pairs comprising two professionals, a professional and amateur or two amateurs. Amateurs will be entitled to 90 per cent of their handicaps (maximum 24 men and ladies 30).
The next event is scheduled to take place on November 20 and registration closes seven days beforehand.
