Three Order of Merit events that could lead to participation in the 2020 English PGA Championships, two new pro-ams and another carrying a £7,000-plus prize fund are the jewels in the crown of this year’s PGA Midlands tournament schedule.
The Order of Merit programme features the 14th staging of the Glazerite Trophy at Wellingborough and the PGA Midlands Professional Championship at Shifnal; the third, at Ladbrook Park for the second successive year, completes the trio.
In addition to the combined prize purse of circa £30,000 on offer in the Order of Merit series, a top three berth in the final rankings earns a place in the end of season PGA Play-offs at Antalya Golf Club, Turkey, while the leading 15 will qualify for next year’s English PGA Championship.
The Order of Merit will also incorporate separate competitions for Women, Seniors and Trainees. Participation in Order of Merit events and pro-ams is prioritised on last year’s 20 exempt players and 2019 Q School rankings.
Non-exempt members can enter one of the two qualifying schools staged at The Belfry to earn a ranking.
The closing date for the first which be contested on Wednesday March 27 is Friday March 22. The closing date for the second on Wednesday April 17 is Wednesday April 10. Each will have a maximum field of 60 and entry is via Bluegolf.
All non-attendees of Q School are welcome to enter Order of Merit events and pro-ams, two of which are new to the schedule.
One, the Stratford on Avon Pro-Am in June, celebrates the club’s 125th anniversary; the other will be staged at Hollywood Golf Club in September.
Meanwhile, the most lucrative event in a packed programme of pro-ams will be staged at a venue boasting R&A approval, Kedleston Park Golf Club.
The course will host Regional Qualifying for The Open for the second year in succession on June 24, 18 days after a minimum of 40 teams of four, each comprising a PGA Professional and three amateurs, compete for a portion of the £7,700 prize fund.
Teams of four are also invited to take part in regional captain Nic Gilks’ Charity Golf Day to raise money for The PGA Benevolent Fund.
Entry to the event at Bramcote Waters Golf Club on Friday October 11 costs £140 per team, which can comprise PGA Professionals/Trainees and amateurs, just PGA Professionals/Trainees or just amateurs.
Finally, bringing the curtain down on what is expected to be a memorable and keenly contested season is the PGAMidlands/Golf Escapes Overseas Pro-Am at Vilamoura, Portugal, from November 1-5.
