James Freeman found his golfing mojo on the back nine of the PGA National course at The Belfry to win the PGA Midlands Q School #2.
Having reached the turn in one-over, the pro from Retford Golf Club, Nottinghamshire, delivered bogey-free golf and three birdies on the way home to post a two-under-par round of 69 and claim the £250 first prize.
His victory, however, was a close run thing and he was indebted to late wobbles from two of his closest pursuers, Andrew Jones and James Brittain who, with Ian Gregory, tied for second place on one-under.
Jones, who represents the Welcombe Hotel and Spa, Stratford-upon-Avon, bogeyed the par four 18th, to miss out on a share of first place
And Brittain, from the Matthew Lea Golf Academy, squandered the chance of outright victory when he racked up a double bogey on the same hole.
Meanwhile, Charnwood Golf Centre’s Gregory emulated Freeman with three birdies and no bogeys on the back nine but was left to rue three bogeys before the turn after starting with a birdie.
