Ben Jenks delivered a birdie blitz in the final stages of the PGA Midlands Trainees Strokeplay #2 at Wishaw Golf Club to pip Michael Bayliss for victory.
Jenks, who began the 36-hole tournament inauspiciously with a double bogey at the par-four first, was a shot adrift of Bayliss on two-over-par after the first negotiation of the course on the fringe of Sutton Coldfield.
And his hopes of claiming the £250 first prize looked even more remote at the midway point of the second and final round when he trailed his rival from Copt Heath Golf Club by five shots.
But by posting five birdies on the back nine, including four in succession from holes 11 to 14, coupled with Bayliss registering a double bogey at 10 and then bogeying the par-three 12th, Jenks hit back to win by two shots.
In doing so, the Assistant from Burton on Trent Golf Club signed off with a four-under-par round of 66 and, in completing the tournament in two-under, was the only one in the field to break par.
