Luke Towler was one of three players to record a quintet of birdies in the Olton Golf Club Pro-Am but his lack of errors ensured he claimed the £700 first prize.
Whereas the two other members of the trio, Andrew Cheese and Darren Prosser, ruined their hopes of victory by recording four and five bogeys respectively, the pro from Telford Golf and Country Club remained comparatively mishap-free.
There were just two bogeys on Towler’s card – both coming at par-threes, the fifth and 13th.
Three birdies on the front nine and two more on the way home, however, more than made amends and Towler posted a three-under-par round of 67 to finish a shot clear of Ladbrook Park’s Chris Freeman.
Cheese, meanwhile, had to settle for third place, a shot further back on one-under after a round of 69 that ended with three birdies on the bounce.
Unfortunately for the pro who represents the Robert Rock Golf Academy, his explosive finish had earlier been sabotaged by the three bogeys in succession on the front nine.
Freeman and Cheese earned £565 and £450 respectively while Craig Shave, Simon Lilly, Midland PGA captain Nic Gilks and Prosser picked up £283.75 each after finishing tied fourth on level par.
The team competition was won by Wollaton Park’s Lee Clarke and his trio of amateurs with a two-ball 14-under-par score of 126, one shot fewer than the line-up led by Cheese.
