A bogey at the penultimate hole for Chris Evans and Chris Freeman’s birdie at the last resulted in them tying for first place in the Chase Golf Club Pro-Am.
Both posted two-under-par rounds of 70 to earn £575 after Freeman had looked set to claim outright victory when he arrived at the par five-15th.
The pro from Ladbrook Park Golf Club was four-under-par and bogey-free at that stage but three bogeys on the bounce proved costly.
By contrast, Evans (below), who is attached to Aston Wood Golf Club, experienced a round of ups and downs.
An eagle at the par-five eighth was instrumental in him reaching the turn in one-under and, with Freeman wobbling, back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14 set him for the win until he bogeyed the 17th.
Meanwhile the battle for third place was even more closely contested and ended with four finishing on level-par two shots shy of the Freeman and Evans.
The quartet comprised: Simon Lilly of De Vere Staverton Estate, The Belfry’s Neil Wain, David Atkins of Marriott Forest of Arden, and Drayton Park Golf Club’s Matthew Fieldsend who, like Freeman, recorded five birdies.
