Paul Streeter reproduced the form that has earned him success on the Staysure Tour by equalling the course record in winning the Jelson Homes Pro-Am at Rothley Park.
There was no hint of what was to come when Streeter, who won two Staysure Tour events last year during his debut season, negotiated the first four holes on the Leicestershire course in par.
An eagle an the par-four fifth, however, lit the blue touch paper. Successive birdies at eight and nine took the pro from Lincoln Golf Centre to four-under at the turn and four more followed on the back nine.
The only blip came with a bogey at the par-four 14th but Streeter made amends at 15 before signing off with successive birdies at 17 and 18 to claim the winner’s cheque of £700.
It all added up to a seven-under-par-score of 64 that left him two shots clear of Oakmere Park Golf Club’s Andy Willey.
The tournament was Willey’s last before he defends his Titleist and FootJoy PGA Professional Championship at Hunstanton. It was also his fifth in eight days, none of which have resulted in him finishing outside the top four.
Willey will be joined at Hunstanton by Andrew Cheese and James Whatley, who tied for third place on three-under, plus Simon Lilly and Matt Cort who were a shot further back.
Streeter, meanwhile, will be back on the Staysure Tour competing in the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship hosted by Ian Woosnam at Trevose, Cornwall.
