The Association was formed in 1950 at a meeting of 13 Hampshire PGA Professionals. From this small beginning the membership has today grown to more than 140 professional golfers.
The PGA in Hampshire, which celebrated its diamond jubilee in 2010, has a busy tournament schedule that includes over 40 championship and pro-am tournaments. Major championships in 2013 included the Hampshire Open Championship at Royal Winchester, PGA Championship at Army, Matchplay Championship at Hockley and the Meachers Global Logistics Masters at Southwood.
The president of The PGA in Hampshire is David Harrison OBE, who was elected in 1981, succeeding the late Francis Holmes MBE.
David (pictured above) joined the R&A in the same year and served on Rules and Championship Committees. He was captain of the R&A in 2007 and has also served as chairman of the general committee from 2003 to 2006. In addition to his committee work with the R&A he has spent over 30 years in golf administration, particularly with the EGU where he was president in 1992.
A distinguished playing career saw David win the Hampshire County Championship a record six times and the Golf Illustrated Vase on two occasions. In 2009 David was awarded the OBE for his services to golf.
