The general manager of Sandford Springs Golf Club in Hampshire has expressed the shock and sorrow felt by staff and members following the untimely passing of Anthony Dillon, its director of golf.
“This has been a huge shock to staff and members alike here at Sandford Springs,” said Tom Moran.
“He will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with his wife Denise and family at this time. The messages of support have been overwhelming and are testament to the impact he had on everyone he met.”
Anthony, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 48 earlier this month, started and ended his professional career at Sandford Springs.
He qualified as a PGA Professional in 1990 during his first spell there and returned as its director of golf towards the end of 2015.
In between times he worked at several clubs in the area, including Weybrook Park, Basingstoke, where he spent 15 years from 1997 until 2012.
His funeral will be held at 14.00 on Wednesday November 22 at St Leonard’s Church, Rectory Road, Basingstoke RG23 7ED. It will be followed by a reception at Sandford Springs Golf Club, RG26 5RT.
Denise, Anthony’s widow, has asked for donations instead of flowers to be made at the church and advised the wearing of black-coloured clothing is not necessary.
