Nigel Parr, who in 1978 was deemed the youngest PGA qualified club professional in the country, has retired after 41 years as incumbent at Childwall Golf Club.
He originally signed up as an assistant at Grange under the auspices John Jarman, the son of 1935 Ryder Cup player Ted, prior to moving the Warwick Driving Range,
It was one of the first in the country in 1977 and Parr linked up as a coach with Steve Baldwin who had worked with Henry Cotton at Penina.
His next, and final move, a year later was to Childwall where he became the club’s fourth professional, having joined the PGA at the start of 1975.
Parr, who was a Hennessey Cognac pro-am winner in 1987, the same year his beloved club Everton won the league, successfully trained seven assistants at Childwall who became qualified PGA members.
Meanwhile, Carl Smith his assistant for 16 years, has succeeded him.
