PGA professionals will feel at home on the range

PGA North has broken with tradition by running a players’ series throughout the season which will be open for the first time to members who represent other counties. It will be known as the PGA North Players' Tour and tee off with an indoor event!

The venue is The Range, a brand new five-star facility in Spinningfields in the heart of Manchester.

Regional manager Jonathan Paine said: “It provides the most up-to-date technology available and we are the first professional body to try it.”

The Range is the brainchild of 31-year-old director Andrew McLoughney, a scratch player and former member of Blackpool North Shore and St Annes Old Links golf clubs.

He said: “We have five bays, each with a simulator, and we anticipate up to 80 professionals competing over 18 holes strokeplay which we reckon will take 90 minutes all told.

“There’s also a hint that up to five European Tour players will be joining in,” he revealed.

Following the inaugural event at The Range on March 24, the series will then be contested in more traditional surroundings, starting at Crossland Heath three days later.

Other venues include Bolton Old Links, Knutsford, Wakefield and Bishop Auckland Golf Clubs before the series ends at Fulford Golf Club (above) on October 22.
