Even serial winner David Shacklady failed to beat par when he topped the leaderboard at Cheshire club Stamford in the fifth event in the PGA North Players’ Series.
But the Mossock Hall man, who divides his time between the region and senior Staysure Tour, still contrived to head off the rest of the field with a one-over 71.
He was left to rue a double bogey at the short 12th as he prevailed by two strokes from his old adversary, Chilli Dip’s Craig Corrigan, and unattached Oliver Pantoja.
LEADING SCORES: 71 David Shacklady (Mossock Hall); 73 Craig Corrigan (Chilli Dip), Oliver Pantoja (OPG); 74 Andrew Earlam (Saddleworth), Lee Rooke (Royal St David’s), Andrew Palmer (Chorley).
