Paul Horridge 2
Bolton Old Links Golf club is mourning the death of long-serving PGA Professional Paul Horridge at the age of 67.

Paul passed away at the Christie Hospital, Manchester, following a battle with cancer.

He began his career in golf as an assistant to Hugh Lewis at Altrincham before landing his first fully-fledged professional post at Oldham.

He was appointed club professional at Old Links in 1978 and, enjoying an illustrious career, became one of the region’s longest serving and most respected pros.

His successor and former assistant at Old Links, Sean Owen, recalled: “He served the club for 37 years and was an honorary life member. A true gentleman, an all-round great guy and friend to us all who will be deeply missed.

“Paul did not play a great deal of tournament golf because he was committed to his role of club professional. He was a big supporter of playing club golf, local alliances and regional and national PGA events.

“He retired in 2015 and played in the Super 60s at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, posting impressive scores of 67 and 72.”

The PGA extends heartfelt condolences to his family, his wife Linda, daughters Sarah and Elizabeth, and grandson Christopher.
