Mark Pitcher put his local knowledge of Stinchcombe Hill to good use to win the Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA Medal at the hilltop course.

Pitcher, a PGA Assistant at the club, posted a six-under par round of 62 to finish a shot clear of Bristol and Clifton Assistant Nick Ramshaw and Chipping Sodbury’s Giuseppe Licata.

He served notice of what was to come with an eagle at the par-four first and followed up with five birdies before recording the solitary blemish on his card, a bogey at the last.

Ramshaw, by contrast, enjoyed a bogey-free round in posting a five-under total of 63 while Licata’s birdie-laden negotiation of the Gloucestershire course was spoiled by blips at two of the short holes, the sixth and 15th.

Nevertheless, with Total Triumph Order of Merit leader Russ Berry unable to play, finishing tied second enabled Licata to regain pole position.

Meanwhile, Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA vice chairman, Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin, pipped chairman Andrew March (Brean) for fourth place, the pair posting scores of 64 and 65 respectively.
