Langdon and Berry tie at Brean

21 Sep 17

Ross Langdon

Ross Langdon and Russ Berry – two Gloucestershire players who have been mainly absent from the West scene this summer – returned to win the second Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal of the new winter season.

The Brickhampton Court and Broadway players visited North Somerset seaside course Brean to fire three-under-par rounds of 66 and head another Gloucestershire player Ed Goodwin (Cirencester) by one shot.

On a dry but breezy day the large field tackled the short course containing many water hazards that snare wayward shots.

Langdon opened with three birdies and followed with 12 pars. Berry played in the final group and made five birdies at the first, fifth, eighth, ninth and 18th and bogeys at the seventh and 12th.

Goodwin, whose adventurous rounds invariably feature a mixture of birdies and bogeys, scooped the birdie and Over 40s sweeps with an eagle and three birdies in his 67.

George Ryall (Burnham & Berrow) finished fourth a further shot back while Paul Barrington (InPlay Golf, Bristol), who has found Brean much more to his liking lately, was fifth on par.

He shared with Wheathill assistant Martin Liley who enjoyed his best finish in a dual-county event because of a sparkling front nine of 28 on his first visit to the course.

Despite finishing 13th Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury) still leads the Total Triumph Order of Merit from Berry and plays on his home course in the next round.
