James Ruth was left to reflect on finishing tied first with John Bickerton in the Tehidy Park Golf Club Pro-Am after leading him by five shots.
Ruth, who is attached to China Fleet Golf and Country Club, posted four birdies on the front nine to be four-under at the turn.
At that stage Bickerton was on one-under and East Devon Golf Club’s Kevin Harper Ruth’s closest challenger on three-under.
Ruth increased his advantage with a birdie at the par five 10th but lost his way thereafter.
A double bogey and bogey at the par four 12th and 13th holes and another at the 18th completed the transformation.
Harper, like Ruth, fell foul of the 12th and 13th holes, recording a double bogey and bogey en route to a level-par round of 71.
By contrast Bickerton, a former European Tour player who is attached to Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club, kept his game together.
One-under at the turn, Bickerton completed the back nine in regulation to earn a share of first place and claim his biggest prize of the season - £750.
Meanwhile, the team competition which featured a PGA Professional playing alongside three amateurs resulted in a three-way tie for first place involving Jonathan Lamb’s Tehidy Park, Gary Milne’s Woodbury Park Hotel and Golf Club, and Harper’s East Devon Golf Club. Each amassed 87 Stableford points in the two-ball better-ball format to claim £100.
