William Nolan Farley switched on the afterburners on the back nine in the Torquay Golf Club Pro-Am to leave the field in his wake and claim his second victory of the season.
The first had come at national level in a Birdietime PGA Assistants Championship qualifier at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club.
Nolan Farley, a PGA Assistant at Bovey Castle Hotel in Devon, won that by a shot to qualify for the final at Pleasington, Lancashire, towards the end of August.
His margin of victory at Torquay, by contrast, was far more comfortable – once he had overcome the challenge of Kevin Harper and Barry Austin, that is.
Austin, who is attached to Downes Crediton Golf Club, was level with Nolan Farley on one-under after the latter bogeyed the par four 11th and East Devon Golf Club’s Harper was a shot clear.
But while Nolan Farley responded to the setback with three birdies on the bounce and signed off with another, Harper and Austin faltered.
They ended up sharing second place after posting one-under-par rounds of 67, four shots adrift of Nolan Farley whose five-under-par 63 earned him the £850 winner’s cheque.
